Infrared thermography is the science of acquisition and analysis of thermal information from non-contact thermal imaging devices. Thermography offers non-contact, two dimensional and real time temperature measurement technique. The picture that is generated is called a thermogram or thermal image. The thermographer is a trained person to read and analyse thermograms.
With the importance of temperature in every process it is quite difficult or impossible to name something that is unaffected by temperature. For this reason it is not surprising that applications for thermography are continually growing. Areas which thermography is used range across the following disciplines:
- Condition Monitoring
- Research and Development
- Medical and veterinary
- Quality control and process monitoring
- Non-destructive testing
- Search and Rescue
- Policing and crime prevention.
